Kootenai Curlies

American Bashkir Curly Horses

Our Breeding Stock

It is not often that a breeding farm is blessed with two good stallions.  But this is what has happened here at Kootenai Curly Horses.  Let me introduce you to both of these “fine gentleman.”  They both gave us so very much.  They have both gone to their rest now.  This is a great loss to the curly world.  But they have both given us their foals to carry on their legacy.

Mississippi Mud Slinger, ABCR 3022, was our first stallion.  He represented the breeding work of Sharon Williams and of Harold Fairchild.  In the year 2007 he was severely injured when a tornado tore through this mountain valley.  The high winds ripped off part of the metal roof of our hay barn. This twisted debris impaled him, badly shredding his right hind leg. We, together with our vet, nursed him back to health. Even after his injury he continued to serve us well.  Finally in April of 2011, we had to put him to sleep because the pain from his old wound had become too intense.  But he has left us a lovely stallion prospect named Penny’s Ziggy, with a last foal due this spring.

Ne Hi Majic, ABCR 1172, ICHO 1455-D, was our second stallion.  He came to our ranch in May of 2011 due to the kindness and generosity of Dr. Mitch Wilkinson.  Nipper, as he was known to his friends, was a true foundation curly stallion of Damele, McKendry and Pat Johnson breeding. He had one of the kindest dispositions in the entire curly horse “family.”  He was gaited, doing a true running walk.  He had a good, “using” horse conformation.  Nipper got three mares in foal for us during the short time that he graced our lives.  On August 31, 2011 our vet, Dr. Stoll, humanely put him to sleep due to a cancer that had ruined his quality of life at the age of 22 years. We are grateful for Nipper’s life and we are looking forward to the three foals that are due this spring.  We loved Nipper deeply and he is still missed.

Here at Kootenai Curly Horses we have dedicated ourselves to carrying on the blood lines of these two wonderful curly stallions because they both represent what is best about the curly horse.  We are happy to keep their legacy alive for the curly world.
